Hip Hop & Vulnerability with GeNie Baffoe

Genie Baffoe Awesome

In this episode, I sit down with Winnipeg Hip Hop Dance Instructor (and legend) Genie Baffoe. I've taken a few of his classes with Dance With Genie and he is the most charismatic, upbeat, make-you-feel-good-even-when-you-are-tripping-over-two-left-feet instructor I've ever had. So naturally, I had to interview him and find out what his secret was to being himself, 100% of the time, loud and proud.

If you want to see more of GeNie and learn about the history of Hip Hop in Winnipeg, his premier documentary, Our Scene, premieres July 28th at the WAG. Tickets are on Eventbrite or at the door.

#12 - The Stories We Tell Ourselves

#12 - The Stories We Tell Ourselves

Our beliefs are formed from stories. We take little meanings from our experiences and decide to take them as truth. Unconsciously of course. Until we over come the story by happening around it or actively change it, we are unknowingly controlled by these little rules.

I discover stories about myself often. I try my best, when I discover a story that is negatively serving me to decide not to believe it. If it is just a story, I can choose to believe a new story. It is up to me what I believe and what rule influences my decisions.

Today I unveiled a new story.

#10 - Kristjanna Oleson - Self-Care and Honouring Yourself by Paying Attention

Kristjanna is an educator, musician, reiki healer and intentional-living junkie. She is passionate about putting herself first and encouraging others to do the same. She believes if we all spent time on self-care first, there would be a lot less illness, stress and negativity in the world.

In our conversation, we discuss self-care and what that really means and looks like. Listening to your body, listening to your authentic voice, and how to slow down and start putting ourselves first. We even cover that frightful topic of saying "No!".

This is a great message for women to listen to - so share it with your girlfriends and send them some love!

#05 - Letting Go of Expectations and Moving into Fun Flow

#05 - Letting Go of Expectations and Moving into Fun Flow

The end of the year is often a time of reflection on the past and desires for the future. But if we approach it from an angle of expectation, where we thought we should be at this time, what results we wanted to have, we can really stress ourselves out if our reality looks a little different.

I caught myself trying to fit the present moment into expectations instead of playing and flowing naturally with what is.

This is just a little reminder to help you let go of expectations with me.

#03 - What is Life Coaching?

#03 - What is Life Coaching?

In this episode I’ll give you a intro to what life coaching is. It’s not just this hippy-dippy, touchy-feely woo woo stuff. It is actual practical resources and processes to help you achieve the goals you want to reach.

A life coach is a lot like a sports coach (it is branched off of sports coaching). Being a figure skating coach, I can easily draw the similarities and each experience improves the other.

In skating, I wear different hats. I am a teacher of skills, I am a critic, I am a choreographer, I am a goal setter, I am a planner, I am a guide, I am a manager and I am a cheerleader.

With life coaching, I am a listener, I am a questioner, I am a goal setter, I am a planner, I am a guide, I am a manager, I am a cheerleader.

#01 - My Story Evolving from a Negative to Positive Mindset

Three years ago I found myself at my lowest point mentally. I was full of anxieties and fear and had formed a really negative mindset about my reality. It took a wake up call for me to start looking around and questioning what was going on. Why was I feeling so bad? How could I change it?

In this episode I'll share with you how I picked up myself up, dusted myself off and started to make positive shifts to my mindset and world around me.

We create our reality and can create a life we truly love if we are willing to turn inwards and listen.
